Arugam bay Surfing
Arugam bay is located in East side of Sri Lanka and a most beautiful bay with good surfing. The beach and area of Arugam bay offers infinite possibilities for all kind of water sports and underwater photography. Arugam bay has three main surfing spots which are Arugam Point, Pottuvil Point and Crocodile Rock.
Arugampoint - it is also the best swell magnet of all the points and you can almost always guarantees that the point will be couple of feet bigger than any of the breaks. Due to its location it is also attracts the biggest crowd but seems to handle it as it often section in a few spots. On a good day it provides a clean wall that will barrel in the section and give you a 400 meter ride through to the Pottuvil point- is every surfers dream tropical wave. A long deserted sandy beach dotted with some huge boulders at the water's edge. Make this wave a favorite with some of the season vetreans. Less crowded because its half an hour tuk tuk ride form Arugambay. This surf spot provides 800 meter ride from the outside section right through beach on the inside. The unique thing about this wave is that for most of it you can be working a four foot face and be only a few meters from the beach as the wave grinds down the sandy point.
Crocodile Rock – the place must have be named as the rock formation as a Crocodile or there may been saltwater crocodiles on the rock. The place have a perfect wave for the beginner /intermediate or long board enthusiastic. A sucky take off section over sand leads on to a long wall that breaks right down the point for about 400 meters much like the potuvil point.
