Even though people believe where the Vihara Maha Devi Landed as Kirinda, archeological facts prove itβs the place where Muhudu Maha Viharaya is the place where she landed. The Temple is built by about 2000 years ago by King Kavan Tissa who was the ruler of Ruhuna at that time of Sri Lanka. This used to be a large complex, currently restricted to a small area due to land acquisition by the villages. Same time some of the historical artifacts were buried under the sand dunes. Currently the ruins and remains of ancient stupas, Seema Malaka, Avasa Geya and statues can be seen at the site. Important ruins at the temple premises include stone statues of Lord Buddha and two statues of old kings or gods.
